There is a difference between looking at the Western Ghats and being immersed in them. At KaatiKaadu, we prefer the latter.
While many homestays in Sakleshpur offer a "mountain view" from a balcony, we invite you to step off the balcony and into the water. Welcome to River Trekking—our signature activity that turns the jungle into a water park.
What is River Trekking in the Western Ghats?
Forget steep mountain climbs. River trekking (or stream walking) is a guided hike that follows the course of the perennial stream flowing through the Vanagoor Estate deep within the Western Ghats.
Instead of a dirt path, your trail is the riverbed itself. You will wade through crystal-clear ankle-deep water, climb over mossy rocks, and navigate natural pools. It is a sensory overload: the cool water against your skin, the canopy of ancient trees shading you from the sun, and the constant soundtrack of rushing water that defines this biodiversity hotspot.

The Destination: The "Kudure Halla"
The trek isn't just an aimless walk. It leads to one of our favorite hidden spots on the estate: the Kudure Halla, a name that translates to "Horse Stream."
Historically, this is where British officers used to bring their horses for a cooling bath during the colonial era. Here, the stream widens into a gentle, sandy bank. It is the perfect spot to sit down, dip your feet, and let the "natural jacuzzi" of the flowing current massage your tired muscles. It’s private, secluded, and completely off-grid—a rare find in the popular tourist circuits of the Ghats.
Adventure Mode: The Night Trek
For those who think the jungle is too quiet at night, we offer the Vanagoor River Night Trip.
- The Vibe: Armed with flashlights, we head down to the river beach after dark.
- The Experience: The forest comes alive at night. You might spot our resident "Frog Pals" (like the Granular Cricket Frog) or hear the call of nocturnal birds endemic to the Western Ghats.
- The Climax: Sitting by the river under a sky full of stars—a view you simply cannot get in the city.
From peaceful wading to 4x4 crossings, the river is the heart of our estate.

Safety & Seasonality
We take your safety seriously. Because we respect the power of nature, River Trekking is suspended during the peak Monsoon season (typically July–August) when water levels in the Ghats are high.
- Best Time: September to May.
- Difficulty: Beginner-friendly (Requires basic fitness).
- What to Wear: Quick-dry clothes and sandals with good grip (Crocs or floaters work best).
